Surrounded by the rolling foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Casa del Norte is a stately gated retreat that combines refined Southwestern architecture, beautiful gardens, and exceptional privacy. Designed by Michael Bodelson and built by Rick Brenner, the home is located just 2.8 miles from downtown Santa Fe, offering a peaceful setting with convenient access to the city, hiking trails, skiing, and the Santa Fe Opera.

The main house features an inviting open-concept floor plan with formal living and dining areas connected by a shared fireplace. Warm, earthy tones, handsome hardwood and stone-tile floors, traditional vigas, and carefully selected fixtures create an atmosphere that feels both sophisticated and comfortable.

The chef’s kitchen provides a welcoming space for preparing meals and gathering together, while a separate family room offers another comfortable area for relaxing. Throughout the property, five fireplaces add warmth and classic Santa Fe ambiance.

The main house includes three bedrooms, thoughtfully arranged to provide privacy and comfort. The primary suite is a peaceful sanctuary featuring a king-size bed, a spa-inspired bathroom, two walk-in closets, and direct access to a covered portal overlooking the beautiful rose garden. Two additional bedrooms in the main house are each furnished with a queen-size bed.

An attached one-bedroom casita provides additional privacy and is furnished with another queen-size bed. The casita includes its own kitchen area, living room, full bathroom, and laundry facilities, making it an ideal retreat for guests who appreciate a little extra independence while remaining connected to the main residence.

One of Casa del Norte’s most distinctive features is its artistic history. Decorative hand-painted ceiling beams and lintels throughout the home were painted by Arizona artist Ted DeGrazia. Originally part of DeGrazia’s Tucson studio, the beams were preserved when the studio was demolished in the 1980s and later incorporated into this Santa Fe residence.

Outdoor living is equally special. The main house and casita share a large, enclosed terraced garden filled with flowers, roses, and butterfly bushes, with beautiful garden views visible from throughout the property. Serene covered portales and shaded seating areas provide inviting places to enjoy a meal, sip a drink, read a book, or simply appreciate the peaceful surroundings.

The location is especially appealing for outdoor enthusiasts. The parking area for the northern Dale Ball Trail system is approximately 1.5 miles away, providing access to an extensive network of trails and sweeping views of Santa Fe and the surrounding Sandia, Jemez, and Sangre de Cristo Mountains.

Casa del Norte is also conveniently located just off Hyde Park Road for easy access to the Santa Fe ski area. The Santa Fe Opera is approximately a 12-minute drive, while downtown Santa Fe, with its celebrated restaurants, galleries, museums, and shopping, is only about 2.8 miles away.

The house was more than I could have imagined. So pleased. The only two things to even note were the spiders and the oven. The oven seemed to take a very long time to preheat...maybe thermostat isn't working properly. We were able to work around it.
The original house I had contracted sold so Amelia was able to find an even more incredible home - the Casa del Norte.
