Historical Background:
Casa Lobato, located near the top of East Palace Avenue and hidden from view, is one of the oldest homes in the Upper Palace area. Its history is deeply tied to the growth of Palace Avenue, an ancient street, and the Lobato family, descendants of Spanish settlers who have lived on the property for over 130 years.
In the late Territorial period, Palace Avenue became Santa Fe’s fashionable district, lined with large homes owned by wealthy families. The Upper Palace area, where Casa Lobato is located, sheltered poorer families, many of whom worked for those closer to the Plaza.
Built in the late 1800s, Casa Lobato started as a three-room adobe home. Over time, it has grown into a charming, light-filled three-bedroom, three-bath compound, including a *casita* that was once used as a stable.
