Description

Casita Bajo Los Olmos, tucked in the heart of Santa Fe’s trendy Guadalupe Historic District (a leafy, downtown residential neighborhood), is a centrally located home a short 10-minute walk to the historic downtown Plaza, the vibrant Railyard district, and the city’s best-known and emerging destinations. Thoughtfully renovated and decorated, this intimate, Pueblo Revival-style home features an eclectic combination of industrial and reclaimed chic with a nod to rustic Southwestern style.

The owners of this charming one bedroom/one bath casita have a strong sense of personal style, evident in every detail of their home. From the cheerful whitewashed walls to the hand-hewn ceiling beams reclaimed from a Mexican cabin, the home exudes a sense of place and history. Handmade concrete tile floors create a natural and warm feeling and the radiant floor heating throughout makes walking barefoot on the floors one of life’s simple pleasures.

The cozy living area features a comfortable 7-foot deep-seated sofa – an ideal spot to curl up with a good book or watch your favorite shows on a flat screen TV – there’s even room to accommodate an overnight guest. The adjoining dining area seats four and features attractive sconce lighting, a handmade table, and two Windsor chairs sweetly juxtaposed with two vintage Mexican equipale chairs.

The queen-sized bed, made of upcycled hand-hewn oak beams and floor boards were bleached and assembled to create a simple but modern rustic sanctuary. The plush pillow top mattress, soft 100% cotton sheets, goose feather and down pillows and duvet, and a hand-stitched quilt could just make sleeping in the best part of your stay.

The well-equipped kitchen features a four-burner gas stove, a new bottom freezer refrigerator, chef-quality kitchen tools, cookware, and serve ware for up to six, creating the perfect place for you to cook a farm to table feast. If a continental breakfast is more your style, there’s a coffee maker, toaster, and microwave to get your day started on the right foot. Though staying at Casita Bajo Los Olmos feels like a retreat from the world, guests still enjoy modern and convenient amenities - Apple TV, keyless entry, and fast and reliable WiFi.

Nothing about Casita Bajo Los Olmos is haphazard - every detail is planned with care to create a comfortable and relaxed interpretation of traditional Southwest style. Whether it’s the hand-distressed denim easy chair, the queen-sized bed constructed from heritage timbers, or the hand- sewn throw pillows – all the unique furnishings and décor of Casita Bajo Los Olmos have been curated to surprise and delight the senses.

Casita Bajo Los Olmos – is centrally located near the heart of Downtown and is in close proximity, whether on foot or by car to the best of Santa Fe’s inspirational and creative destinations.

With downtown Santa Fe just a few minutes walk from Casita Bajo Los Olmos, you can leave your car behind and enjoy what makes The City Different one of Travel + Leisure’s 2017 top three US cities. Walk to Serat and Sons – the granddaddy of Santa Fe’s trend setting home shops – for a visual feast of one-of-a-kind antique Asian and Tibetan furnishings, then stroll through the plaza over to Shiprock Santa Fe to purchase a special gift from their curated collection of historic and contemporary Navajo rugs, blankets and Native American jewelry. If contemporary art is more your style. Or walk south from Casita Bajo Los Olmos to visit SITE Santa Fe, an innovative visual arts space showcasing emerging and established artists in a new architectural gem just a 15-minute walk away. Maybe you’re a foodie and looking for that hands-on experience, then take a 7-minute stroll from the home to the Santa Fe School of Cooking for a demonstration class with master chefs, or take one of their food tasting walking tours with the city’s best chefs steps away in downtown Santa Fe.

Just around the corner from the Santa Fe School of Cooking is the beautiful and historic Lensic Theatre, a stunning Moorish and Spanish Renaissance former movie palace (only a 9-minute walk from the home) to take in one of the over 200 dance, film, theatre, opera, lectures, and spoken word events held each year.

If you are a maker or artisan, then grab your car keys and take a short 15-minute drive to visit Santa Fe’s Museum Hill for inspiration. It boasts four world-class museums (plus a botanical garden) highlighting the art history and culture of the Native American Southwest, the Spanish colonial past, and folk traditions from around the world.

For something a bit more Avant Garde, visit the 20,000-square foot Meow Wolf Art Complex, a fantasy world created by a collective of odd ball, high-tech gamers and enthusiasts that the New York Times called “the amusement park for people who want a weirder Disneyland”.

For those seeking a more natural experience, recharge your mind, body, and spirit at Ten Thousand Waves, a scenic 17-minute drive northeast of downtown, to a Japanese-style spa and mindfulness center surrounded by natural beauty that Conde Nast Magazine readers voted one of the world’s top spas in 2015.
