Follow the Santa Fe River up the canyon to where it opens to Monsignor Patrick Smith Park, and just across from the little bridge to the park, you will see a private gate. Behind the gate, at the end of the landscaped driveway, is Casa del Buda. You can park two cars in the driveway or one, behind the hand-made garage door, in the heated garage.
Enter through the handmade front door into a traditional, but modern, adobe home. The interior and exterior walls are built of almost 1-foot deep mud bricks, which help regulate the temperature and create a serene, quiet home.
The chef’s kitchen features Viking and Sub-Zero appliances, including a wine fridge. The kitchen is fully furnished with everything you need to prepare a simple bite or a gourmet meal.
Just off the kitchen is a covered patio with a natural gas grill with rotisserie available. Stairs from the patio lead to the terraced back garden. What may appear to be a dry creekbed is actually the Acequia Muralla, built between 1680–1766. During the growing season, you will hear the rushing waters of the acequia on Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons.
The kitchen opens to the large great room. The dining room table is a single slab of naturally fallen Black Walnut with a custom-built base. The table was specifically designed for Casa del Buda and crafted in Oregon.
Sunlight washes down the wall from a room-length skylight. The living area features a large sofa, designed for napping, made by Santa Fe craftsmen at Seret & Sons from two Persian carpets. Relax by the Rumsford fireplace and watch the 55” television. Art includes pieces by Nigel Conway, Peter Tunney, Brad Smith, and Andy Warhol. The living room features a Sonos sound system, which can be enjoyed anywhere in the home or on the patio.
The entire South wall of the great room opens to the large, private patio. The patio is landscaped with Aspen and fruit trees. Listen to the fountain or enjoy the silence. The patio features a large sofa and two armchairs, plus dining for four.
A small study is across from the master bedroom. The study has a comfortable desk and wireless printer, if you need to get some work done. The bookshelves have board and card games, as well as local travel guide books.
The master bedroom, with king bed, has a traditional kiva fireplace, 43” tv, and french doors that open to the Aspen on the patio. The large walk-in closet offers ample room to dress for a night out at one of Santa Fe’s great restaurants. The master bath features 2 separate sink areas and separate tub and shower.
A half-bath next to the front door is convenient for your guests.
The guest bedroom, with queen bed, has a view of the terraced garden, 43” tv, and ceiling fan. The guest bath has a tub-shower combo.
Case del Buda has radiant heated brick floors through the entire home. The floors are zoned: main living/kitchen; study; guest room and bath; study, master bedroom; master bath; and garage. There is also a traditional force gas heat and air conditioning system available.
